JUDGING INSTRUCTION
CATEGORY CRITERIA Please take a few minutes to review. The category criteria are located in your packet
SCORES SHEETS Please write your name on the score sheets. Please write the contestant’s name and number in the space provided. The score sheets will indicate the total points that a competitor can reach. Please indicate the points per criterion for every competitor on the score sheets during or immediately following the contestant’s performance or presentation. Please score appropriately, do not gold a student unless they reach a score of 95!
EVALUATION SHEETS Please take the time to complete an evaluation sheet for each competitor. Positive and constructive criticism and comments help the competitors enhance and improve their craft. Please no negative comments. Please write your name and the contestant name and number on the evaluation form.
ONCE ALL CONTESTANTS HAVE BEEN JUDGED Add all the scores across and put the final score in the total point box for each contestant. Give your score sheets to the facilitator. The facilitator will enter and total all final scores onto the tally sheet. No ties are allowed. If there is a tie, the facilitator will give back the tied scores for you to discuss and decide the winner. Once the total scores have been determined, the facilitator will enter the gold, silver and bronze winners on the verification writ for you to confirm that the winners were selected by the judges. Please sign your name in agreement to the decision. All decisions stand! The score sheet and evaluation are to be placed in folders and returned to the room facilitator. Please do not leave with signing the writ.
EACH CATEGORY WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A ROOM FACILITATOR: The room facilitator will bring the room to order. And advise the competitors of general procedures that are to be followed during the competition. Please introduce yourself and give tell the quickly of your training/profession. The facilitator will assist you during the competition. If you need to be excused, inform the facilitator and the competition will not proceed until you return. The facilitator will also be responsible for placing the CD/cassette into the player (for those categories needing music) and timing (for the categories that are timed.) If you have any questions, please see the facilitator.
FOR HUMANITIES JUDGES: (Closed competition.) The contestant will not be in the room while you are reading. You are to interview each contestant after you have read the contestant’s paper. The facilitator will show the contestant’s number to you, take note because the facilitator will place the number in the number box. In poetry you may want them to recite if poem is quality. Take papers and place in your packet or judge’s packet.
FOR PERFORMING ARTS JUDGES (Open competition). The facilitator will show the contestant’s number to you, take note because the facilitator will place the number in the number box. The student is not to start without your ok. You are not allowed to interview the contestant unless you are judging music composition.
FOR VISUAL ART JUDGES (Closed/Open competition). All visual art categories are closed with the exception of Film. Please interview contestants regarding their art/photo or film. The facilitator will show the contestant’s number to you, take note because the facilitator will place the number in the number box.
FOR SCIENCE JUDGES (Closed Competition except parents)All science categories are closed. Make sure contestants have their project board and their paper. The facilitator will show the contestant’s number to you, take note because the facilitator will place the number in the number box.
REMINDER: Judges are not to instruct, advise or interact with contestants prior to, during or after the competition!
